Irmgard Geul

IMG_4025The mixed-media works of international artist Irmgard Geul are best viewed as contemporary landscapes on paper, canvas or fabric. She creates scenes that come to life with a loose use of thread and fabric, thrown and stitched on the painting. Each layer tells a story adding texture and depth to the landscape. the fusion of thread and paint brings a tactile dimension to the scenery, capturing light and movement.

Born and raised in The Netherlands, Irmgard grew up in the small town of Blaricum, south of Amsterdam. She completed her studies in art at HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht and worked across sector in fashion design and visual communication. Twenty one years ago she came to Oklahoma to persue a career working with horses, and, in retirement, has found her way back to art.

Her mixed media work is constantly evolving in the urge to map her memories and to tell the stories of her adventures around the world and about rural Oklahoma where she has an art studio on a horse ranch, her home since arriving from The Netherlands in 2003.

Her work was recently featured in Textile Plus, Curbside Chronicle, The Norman Transcript, Art Focus Oklahoma, Oklahoma Today, Artsy Shark and on OETA/Gallery America. Irmgard Geul’s artwork has been in group and solo exhibitions in galleries throughout the U.S. and Internationally. She has private and corporate collectors around the world.
